The REMS TA Center presents this pre-recorded Webinar on the topic of providing emergency preparedness supports to students experiencing homelessness. During this Webinar, the National Center for Homeless Education and the REMS TA Center discussed the importance of ensuring that students who are experiencing displacement as a result of an emergency or who are experiencing homelessness are integrated into emergency operations plans. They explained criteria for a student to be considered a homeless child or youth under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Additionally, they identified the rights of students experiencing homelessness and responsibilities for ensuring these rights. Presenters shared resources to be used by local homeless education liaisons as well as school safety leaders, planning team members, and community partners.

Presenters for this Webinar were Kenya Haynes, Program Specialist at the National Center for Homeless Education and Janelle Hughes, Project Director at the REMS TA Center.

The U.S. Department of Education and its REMS TA Center hosted this Webinar to provide K?12 schools, school districts, regional education agencies, state education agencies, and their community partners with information on how to support students experiencing homelessness. The Webinar serves as a resource to help education agencies ensure that students who are experiencing displacement as a result of an emergency or who are experiencing homelessness, receive emergency preparedness supports.
