The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Safe and Supportive Schools, the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center, and the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) hosted the first Webinar in the Preventing and Addressing Gun Violence in Schools Miniseries: School Safety Starts with Prevention.
During this Webinar, partners provided an overview of prevention strategies, highlighted the importance of building a positive school climate and collaboratively developing high-quality Emergency Operation Plans, as well as the importance of using threat assessments and safe firearm storage as prevention tools. Panelists engaged in a discussion about effective gun violence prevention strategies and tools they have implemented in their school communities and other considerations to support student safety.
