The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: What Does It Mean for Educators?

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and its Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), hosted a webinar on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to highlight how K-12 educators and educational partners can use this important resource to further support their school communities. During this webinar, staff from the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, ED, and the REMS TA Center discussed the importance of ensuring that students who are struggling know how to contact 988, know who answers 988, and what supports 988 provide. In addition, they explained how to work with partners across the school community and others to create safe learning environments for students. Presenters shared the resources below to be used by school safety leaders, planning team members, and community partners.

ED and its REMS TA Center hosted this webinar to provide K-12 schools, school districts, regional education agencies, state education agencies, and their community partners with information on how to support students experiencing mental health issues. The webinar serves as a resource to help education agencies ensure that students who are experiencing mental health issues receive needed supports. While the live webinar offered opportunities to respond to individual and unique questions from stakeholders and practitioners, the archived webinar serves as a resource to help education agencies further support their school communities using the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Resources
